Crit Club

  • Gallery Y Anthony Bowen YMCA Washington, DC (map)

Crit Club hosts the art community by engaging in conversation about the development of work and life as an artist. Hosted every last Friday of the month from 6:30 - 8:30 pm., artists are asked to bring physical art, sketches, or digital images of what they’re exploring in their art practice. Creatives of all experience levels are encouraged to join for constructive feedback and to build community. Crit, short for critique, is a form of feedback standard in university art education but is rarely practiced outside the classroom walls or beyond paywalls. Crit Club offers a safe, free space for creatives to speak about their work in a low-stakes, constructive environment, creating opportunities to work through conceptual ideas before interactions in professional settings such as exhibitions and studio visits.

This gathering is intended for visual artists, but any creative is more than welcome to come and share.

Each meet-up has an attendance cap of 15 people, with established artists. Past participants such as Monica Jahan Bose, Ali Syverson, Adam Chamy, Brian H. Zambrano, Khin, Anthony Trang Quang Le, and Ashley Jaye Williams have joined and contributed to the success of our meetings.
